Premium Autolack Schmidt GmbH & Co. KG
Hamburg
About the company
Premium Autolack Schmidt was founded in 2008 by Dieter Schmidt, a third-generation paint specialist whose family previously owned a traditional body shop. Dieter leveraged his industry connections and technical expertise to create a high-end refinishing operation specifically targeting luxury vehicles. The business began in Hamburg with just 4 employees and has grown steadily. In 2015, the company restructured as a GmbH & Co. KG (limited partnership with a limited liability company as general partner) when Dieter brought in two silent partners to fund expansion into specialized services like carbon fiber finishing and ceramic coating applications.
Values
Excellence is our only standard. We position ourselves as artists working with automotive canvases, not merely service providers. Each project receives unlimited attention until it achieves perfection, regardless of the time investment required. We maintain strict client confidentiality, as many of our customers are public figures or collectors who value discretion. Environmental responsibility is paramount—we've implemented a closed-loop water system and filtration technology that captures nearly all particulates and VOCs. Regarding work safety, we've invested extensively in automated preparation systems to minimize employee exposure to harmful substances. Our team members undergo rigorous training and certification, but I must admit our culture sometimes glorifies working extra hours without breaks when tight deadlines approach, occasionally compromising proper rest periods required by safety regulations.
Workshop
The Premium Autolack facility represents the pinnacle of refinishing environments in Germany, spanning 1,200 square meters of meticulously designed space. The centerpiece is a custom-built downdraft spray booth with specialized lighting that mimics various daylight conditions to ensure color accuracy from any viewing angle. Adjacent to this is a separate booth dedicated to ceramic coating application in a dust-free environment. The preparation area features climate-controlled stations isolated from the rest of the facility by positive pressure systems to prevent contamination. Their mixing lab resembles a scientific facility more than a traditional paint shop, with temperature-controlled storage and computerized formulation equipment. The final quality control area uses specialized light tunnels and digital imaging technology to identify imperfections invisible to the naked eye.

Buying behavior
We only source the absolute finest tools and materials available globally. Our clients expect perfection, which requires exceptional equipment. I personally test every new system before adopting it in our workflow. Cost is secondary to performance and consistency – when a client is paying five figures for a bespoke finish on their Porsche or Ferrari, there's no room for compromise.
