Hans Zimmermann
Hans represents the old school of German craftsmanship, having trained under Franz Müller himself in the early days of the company. He initially planned to retire at 60 but decided to stay part-time to share his vast knowledge with younger workers. Hans specializes in intricate cabinet details and has worked on furniture pieces for several prominent German politicians and business leaders throughout his career.
Experience: Master craftsman with over 45 years of experience (10/10)
Favorite Jobs
- Hand-cut dovetail joints
- Traditional cabinetry techniques
- Historical furniture restoration
Modern tools have their place, but understanding how to work wood by hand gives you insights no machine can provide. I still learn something new every day, even after all these years, and that's the beauty of our craft.
Physical Condition
Hans shows significant joint degeneration in his hands with reduced dexterity and strength, though his technique and precision remain excellent. He tires more easily than in his younger years and carefully paces himself through the workday, taking more frequent breaks.
Favorite Place
Hans cherishes the small corner of the hand-crafting area where he keeps his personal collection of hand tools, many inherited from his father and grandfather. This workstation has the best natural light in the workshop and features a solid beech workbench he built himself decades ago. The walls around it display templates and jigs he's created over the years, each with a story and technique that he eagerly shares with anyone who shows interest.
