Lukas Weber
After graduating from design school with a master craftsman qualification, Lukas worked for several established workshops before identifying a market gap for contemporary design with traditional quality. He founded ModernWood Design in 2009, growing it from a small rented space to the current 650 square meter workshop in Berlin's Lichtenberg district.
Experience: Master craftsman with over 20 years in fine woodworking (9/10)
Favorite Jobs
- Client consultations
- Designing signature pieces
- Training apprentices
- CNC programming for complex projects
What drives me is creating pieces that honor traditional craftsmanship while embracing modern aesthetics and technology. I believe the future of woodworking lies in this balance – respecting the material's natural properties while leveraging digital precision to push design boundaries.
Physical Condition
Generally in good health though occasionally experiences lower back strain from years of workshop work. Today he's feeling energetic after a good night's sleep and is moving around the workshop with enthusiasm.
Favorite Place
My favorite place is our design studio where clients' visions come to life. The natural light streaming through the tall windows illuminates the material samples and design models, creating an inspiring atmosphere. I love the moment when a client sees the 3D rendering of their project for the first time and their eyes light up with excitement.
