Tobias Schmitt
Tobias is completing his cabinetmaking apprenticeship after initially working in retail for two years after high school. He discovered his passion for woodworking through a community college course and decided to pursue it professionally. Tobias has shown exceptional aptitude for detailed work and plans to pursue journeyman experience with Holzkunst Müller after completing his apprenticeship.
Experience: Advanced apprentice with strong technical foundation (2/10)
Favorite Jobs
- Precision machining
- Shop jig creation
- Learning wood species identification
I'm fascinated by how woodworking balances technical precision with artistic feeling. Every day I learn something new, whether it's understanding grain behavior or mastering a traditional joint technique.
Physical Condition
Tobias is generally in good health with the physical resilience of youth, though he's tired today from staying up late studying for his theoretical apprenticeship exams. He's still building calluses and hand strength typical of experienced craftspeople.
Favorite Place
Tobias is drawn to the material storage area where rough lumber is transformed into project components. This space with its carefully sorted wood species and thickness dimensions represents the beginning of possibility to him. He enjoys the process of selecting the perfect boards for a project, examining grain patterns and considering how they'll come together. The large lumber rack with its rich wood scents and textures provides continuous education as he learns to identify and work with different species.
