Jan Nowak
Jan moved to Germany from Poland 12 years ago, already having carpentry training in his home country. After working for several construction firms, he joined Zimmerei Schmidt five years ago seeking a more stable work environment. He had to adapt to some differences in German carpentry techniques but quickly proved his worth through hard work and reliability.
Experience: Skilled journeyman with 17 years of carpentry experience across two countries (7/10)
Favorite Jobs
- Roof construction
- Attic conversions
- Heavy timber work
In Poland or Germany, good craftsmanship speaks for itself. I may have learned some techniques differently, but quality work is universal. I appreciate how German carpentry emphasizes precision and tradition.
Physical Condition
Jan is suffering from severe back pain today after improperly lifting a heavy beam yesterday. He typically has excellent physical strength and stamina, but this recurring lower back issue is something he struggles with despite knowing proper lifting techniques.
Favorite Place
Jan particularly enjoys the yard area outside the workshop where larger assemblies are constructed. This open space gives him room to work on big components without feeling confined, reminiscent of the more spacious work environments he knew in Poland. The fresh air and natural light help him think clearly when planning complex assemblies, and he appreciates the opportunity to step back and gain perspective on larger structural elements before they're transported to the construction site.
