Heinrich Schmidt

Founded Zimmerei Schmidt in 1992 after completing his master carpenter qualification. Heinrich learned the trade from his father and grandfather, carrying on a family tradition while establishing his own business from scratch in Freiburg. He has built the company's reputation through consistent quality work, especially in roof construction and timber framing.

Wood has a soul that concrete and steel will never have. When I create a roof structure that will stand for generations, I feel connected to the carpenters who built the Black Forest farmhouses centuries ago.

Physical Condition

Despite his age, Heinrich remains physically strong but suffers from chronic lower back pain from decades of heavy lifting. Today his right knee is particularly troublesome after kneeling on hard surfaces for many years, but he rarely complains in front of the crew.

Favorite Place

Heinrich loves his workbench in the quietest corner of the workshop, where the morning light streams through the east window. This is where he sketches plans and makes precise measurements for the most complex parts of a project. The bench was made by his father and holds both sentimental value and practical purpose, with its worn surface telling the story of thousands of measurements and cuts.
