Markus Hoffmann
Markus was originally trained as an electrician before completing additional qualifications in building systems engineering. He joined Eco-Bau in 2013 after working for a conventional building systems company, seeking more innovative and meaningful work in the sustainability sector.
Experience: 20 years in building systems with 10 specialized in energy retrofitting (8/10)
Favorite Jobs
- Energy audits of existing buildings
- Designing efficient heating systems
- Retrofit implementation planning
Retrofitting existing buildings presents fascinating technical puzzles that require both creativity and precision. I take particular satisfaction in transforming energy-wasting structures into efficient, comfortable spaces while preserving their architectural character.
Physical Condition
Markus is generally healthy but suffers from occasional migraines during high-stress periods. Today he is feeling tired after a late night completing calculations for an urgent retrofit project proposal, and is relying heavily on coffee to stay focused.
Favorite Place
Markus's favorite place is his home office which he designed as a personal experiment in energy efficiency. The south-facing room features carefully calculated natural ventilation, optimized daylighting, and a small solar installation that powers his work equipment. The walls are lined with bookshelves containing technical manuals and project documentation from his career. He finds that working in this self-designed efficient space helps him think more clearly about energy solutions for clients, and enjoys the tangible feedback of seeing his own energy monitoring dashboard respond to different conditions.
