Klaus Weber
Klaus joined the Schmidt workshop 27 years ago after completing his Meister qualification and working briefly for a large furniture manufacturer. He was dissatisfied with the production-line approach and sought out a traditional workshop where he could practice true craftsmanship. Klaus has turned down opportunities to start his own business, preferring to focus exclusively on woodworking rather than business management.
Experience: Master craftsman with over 40 years of experience (9/10)
Favorite Jobs

- Traditional German furniture construction
Modern machines have their place, but you must understand how to do the work by hand first. I can tell the quality of a craftsman by watching how they plane a board - it reveals everything about their relationship with the wood.
Physical Condition
Suffering from chronic back pain from decades of standing at the workbench. Today his back is particularly troublesome after spending yesterday installing a large cabinet at a client's home, requiring frequent breaks and occasional wincing when bending.
Favorite Place
Klaus's favorite place is the old-fashioned sharpening station at the back of the workshop. The stone was imported from Japan in the 1970s and sits in a specially designed wooden frame that he built himself. The area is perfectly organized with various stones, strops, and abrasives, all meticulously maintained. He finds a meditative quality in the rhythmic process of sharpening tools, and some of his best ideas come to him while working at this station.
